It’s been another momentous week as I continue to settle into my new house. For the first time in many months, nearly all my possessions are under one roof. Until the beginning of this week, I still had a room full of stuff at my parent’s house.
Later this spring my whole family is going on vacation, and my two nieces were looking for a way to earn a bit of spending money. Since it was school vacation week they were spending a few days at my parent’s house. I told them that if they were willing to help me move the rest of my stuff to my house, that I would give them each some spending money for vacation. They agreed. I believe that I got the better end of that deal.
I’ve been worried about having enough storage at my house. I had a basement in my townhouse, and I went with a slab at my new house. I have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of storage I have at the new house.
With the design of my new house, the ceiling goes all the way to the floor in the loft. I have put walls on each side and each wall has about four feet of storage behind it. It’s been amazing how much I’ve been able to store in that space.
We also have the closet built in the downstairs bedroom and it is huge. It is so much bigger than I thought that it would be. In fact, it is a full walk-in closet. I have closet rods on each end that are parallel as you walk in.
I had kept most of my favorite things at my parent’s house so that they would not get hurt at my house. My house remains a partial construction zone. Earlier in the week I was able to finally hang some of my favorite photos. The first two photos hung were my signed Hobey Baker posters from 2010 with Gustav Nyquist and 2012 with Spencer Abbott. Each day my house is feeling more and more like home.
